The Castello was built in 1400 on the site of a pagan temple, and the hill itself has combined a strategic location with an undeniably fascinating atmosphere for centuries. Within the chapel you’ll see frescoes painted by the Renaissance master Lorenzo da Viterbo in the first half of the 15th century, and the property as a whole
was developed and operated by monasteries and the diocese of Bagnoregio over the centuries. For the past three decades the property has been run by a Neapolitan banker who bought and extensively renovated the Castello and operated it as a mediaeval, historic B&B.
